As You sent Me into the world…. John 17:18. HCSB
I had a dream once. It was vivid, a living experience. It was like no dream I ever had, nor have had since, and it was life changing. It was such an intense encounter with God, that for many hours after my heart was burning within me, and for days after when I remembered the burning would return.
The dream began in a place dark but vibrant, in emerging clarity I realized I was there before time began, and there was the eternal, triune God, Father, Son, Holy Spirit. I was not observing from a distance; rather I was there in the midst. I was standing in the Trinity, and no words could ever describe the love I felt. Love passing Father to Son and Son to Holy Spirit. The Spirit was to my left, Jesus to my right. While I was not acknowledged – my presence was as a fly on the wall – the intensity of the love passed through me; I felt it's weight, vibrancy, intensity, and immensity.
It was then it began. From that very love it began. All creation began to pour forth, I say pouring forth from that very love. Stars and galaxies and planets. The brilliance, the vast glory, the immense lovely, cascading from that very place. The earth spread out, valleys, mountains, meadows, forests, seas. From love it all emerged. Creatures great and small. Skies and clouds and vast expanses of the earth.
Finally, in their own special moment, humans were created, with the love as thick as I've ever felt. God looking, fashioning, loving, and creating – he made humans.
It was at that moment, as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit looked on, I heard the Father speak: "What shall we give them so they will know the measure of my love?" The answer was not spoken, but it was immediately known. I could feel they all knew, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as there was no other answer, but the Son. Jesus knew it and welcomed the knowing. I awoke as he stirred in this knowledge.
The Father sent the Son. No sweeter word ever spoken, than that Living Word, he the ultimate love letter, the message undeniable. Every expression of his life a message of love, of pure, divine, eternal love.
My desire, my burning desire, how rare, how beautiful, how utterly lovely you are! Nothing is more real, than the radiant Living Word, sent to me, so pure, so precious, as a gentle wind. How my heart, seeming so small, is swollen at a gift so lovely, the Son my desire, the Son my lord, the Son my love, my forever love.
